St. Peter St. Joseph Children’s Shelter

About usFor over a century, St. PJ’s has been dedicated to the care and well-being of children. Originally founded as an orphanage by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in 1869, today St. PJ's is a temporary home to children, from infant to 17 years of age, who have suffered severe abuse and neglect. Licensed by the State of Texas as a general residential operation and child placing agency, St. PJ’s is contracted to provide 24-hour emergency care services to children.St. PJ's implements 3 main programs: Emergency Children's Shelter; International Emergency Care Services - fully funded by the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement; & Community Counseling Outreach - provides counseling services to individuals and families in need. Through the Emergency Children's Shelter, St. PJ's implements a trauma-based holistic personalized program, that ensures each child is able to heal and reach critical developmental, educational, physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral milestones. Aside from providing basic necessities (shelter, food, clothing, etc.), we ensure each child has access to medical care, counseling services, education, as well as normalcy experiences that enable them to develop social, emotional and cultural skills.
