Seton provides a safe home for girls, ages 12 to 18, who are pregnant and/or parenting, the majority of whom have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services due to severe abuse, neglect or sexual assault. Since its establishment in 1981, Seton is the only state-licensed 24-hour residential facility with significant capacity in Bexar County focused exclusively on the needs of these fragile young families. Seton implements 3 programs: Residential Critical Needs; Casa de Milagros - fully funded by the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement; & Pregnant 2 Parenting (P2P) Outreach - offers help to those who do not qualify or have transitioned out of our residential services, yet still need the same pregnant/parenting case management & trauma-informed counseling.Under the Residential Critical Needs, Seton provides a dual generational holistic trauma-informed program for teen moms & their babies to help them heal from their histories of trauma & empower them to achieve self-sufficiency. The program encapsulates everything from job skills training, high school completion, financial literacy, child development, pregnant & parenting education, health, household management, spiritual guidance & individual & group therapy sessions. This past year 3 moms graduated from high school or obtained their GEDs; 2 are currently enrolled in college; 5 have employment; 100% of residents demonstrated a reduction in child abuse factors, scoring 80% on the assessment tool.
May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and our staff is focused on self-care not only for their residents, but also for themselves. The Clinical Department for Casa de Milagros just recently reviewed Secondary Traumatic Stress with all program staff. Together, they found ways they could engage in self-care and reviewed the Employee Assistance Programs that are available to them. #selfcare#youmatter#smile... See MoreSee Less
